Upcoming Vote to Increase City of Jamaica Beach Sales Tax
Election is May 4, 2024
Posted on: April 16, 2024 - 9:04am
Proposition A: The adoption of a one percent (1%) increase of the general revenue sales and use tax in the City of Jamaica Beach for a total of two percent (2%).
- The sales tax for General Revenue is a tax that may be levied by a city on all taxable items sold in the city.
- The revenue from that tax may be spent on almost any lawful purpose of the city.
- Currently, Jamaica Beach levies a 1% sales tax.
- State law allows for a maximum of 2%.
- Voting “Yes” for the question will add an additional 1% sales tax (2% total) to all taxable items sold in the Jamaica Beach city limits.
- Voting “No” for the question will cause the tax to remain at 1%.
- The proposed increase of 1% tax is estimated to generate an additional $140,000 annually.
