Upcoming Vote to Increase City of Jamaica Beach Sales Tax

Proposition A:  The adoption of a one percent (1%) increase of the general revenue sales and use tax in the City of Jamaica Beach for a total of two percent (2%).

• The sales tax for General Revenue is a tax that may be levied by a city on all taxable items sold in the city.
• The revenue from that tax may be spent on almost any lawful purpose of the city.
• Currently, Jamaica Beach levies a 1% sales tax. 
• State law allows for a maximum of 2%.
• Voting “Yes” for the question will add an additional 1% sales tax (2% total) to all taxable items sold in the Jamaica Beach city limits.
• Voting “No” for the question will cause the tax to remain at 1%.
• The proposed increase of 1% tax is estimated to generate an additional $140,000 annually.
